Film boat hire in Harwich Harbour
Harwich Harbour is where the Stour and the Orwell meet the sea, with Harwich's old town on one side and the container cranes of Felixstowe, Britain's busiest container port, on the other. Ferries to the Netherlands, some of the biggest container ships afloat, pilot boats, tugs and yachts all use the same entrance.
A steady camera boat that can work in the harbour's swell and keep up with ships on the move, with a second boat for safety on bigger days. Up the rivers towards Ipswich and Manningtree, a smaller boat suits the shallower water.
Permission. Harwich Haven Authority runs the harbour and its approaches, with a vessel traffic service watching every movement. We plan the shoot with them and stay on the radio throughout.
Big ships. The deep-water channel carries some of the largest ships in the world. They cannot stop or turn quickly, so the camera boat works from positions outside the channel, planned around the ships' timings.
Drones. Harwich Harbour is clear of restricted airspace. Take-off needs the landowner's OK, and we keep flights away from the port terminals unless the port has agreed.
Filming somewhere else? See all our film boat hire locations, or tell us where and we will find the right boat.
