Film boat hire in Portsmouth

Portsmouth Harbour, from the water

Portsmouth is the home of the Royal Navy: aircraft carriers and warships alongside the naval base, HMS Victory and HMS Warrior at the Historic Dockyard, the Spinnaker Tower over Gunwharf Quays, and ferries to France and the Isle of Wight through one of the busiest harbour entrances in Britain.

Boats for Portsmouth

A steady camera boat for the harbour and the entrance, and a seaworthy one for the open water and the sea forts off Southsea.

What Portsmouth asks of a shoot

Permission. The Royal Navy's King's Harbour Master runs the harbour. Filming near the naval base and warships is tightly controlled, with protected zones around naval vessels that small craft must not enter, so we plan the shoot with the harbour authority from the start.

Traffic. Ferries, warships and harbour traffic share a narrow entrance. Small craft keep to their own channel there, and we plan positions around the ferry timetable.

Drones. The naval base has its own restricted zone, starting right by the harbour entrance, with more around the other naval sites. Drone work here needs careful planning and, near the base, permission.
